About

This was a project I ran with students at a secondary school in Greater Manchester. The brief was to create some form of interactive art that would thank the staff at the school for their role in keeping the students safe and happy during the Covid-19 pandemic.

I decided to use Twine and have the students create a series of short interactive stories about the staff being superheroes. Over a series of 4 workshops I introduced the students to Twine, had them build stories and art with pen and paper, and then I used those pen and paper prototypes to build the finished Twine game. We then printed off flyers with a QR code and hid them around the school, for people to find and play the game in unexpected locations.

Role

I was the sole designer on this project, and so was responsible for all aspects of teaching Twine to the young people, of helping them develop their stories using pen and paper, and then building those stories into Twine.

Inspirations

For this project I had the students read different comics as inspiration points, both to think about different superhero powers the staff might have, but also in terms of how to tell a story in that comic-style that is extremely expressive and conveys a lot of information very quickly.
